Introduction to BPH
BPH? This is the affectionate name for the “National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.” Part of that service is Talking Books. Clarice Howard, Talking Books Consultant from the Northwest Kansas Library System will be in the JJPL Meeting Room on Thursday, August 24th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. This is an informational meeting for families, patrons, and caregivers. Displays of equipment and explanations of services will be available. You are invited to explore this information in a come and go fashion.
Green Building
Saturday, September 9th, 12:00 p.m. meet John Gitchell from Fort Collins, Colorado in the JJPL meeting room. John is the grandson of Helen Tilton and works for a company called Sustainable Business Solutions Inc. The company web page says, “We provide environmental consulting services to businesses, produce environmental education events, and promote renewable, recycled and non-toxic products for the building, home and office.” We especially invite persons involved in the building business in our community, to gather information at this meeting in September. Mark your calendar now and we will provide more facts each week.
Next Steps
Good news, bad news, depends on your perspective. With grants from the Kansas State Library, Northwest Kansas Library System and the Friends of the Jay Johnson Public Library, the card catalogue is being converted to a web-based program that you can access from your own home or office. This process computerizes the circulation system too and you will hear more about this in the very near future. Hands-on training is being scheduled and we believe this will improve the services we offer to you.
